The Boy and the Beast by Aminah Kehlan - BA (Hons) Animation Uclan Graduate Project 2024

The Boy and the Beast

The story follows a young blind boy in the outskirts of 1970s Iraq. Due to his blindness, Ahmed struggles with getting around until he meets a baby goat who becomes his friend and guide. One morning, as he sits outside his hut, his goat, Zamzam, alerts him that they need to go to the market for some watermelon, Zamzam’s favourite.

Suddenly, a tall and scary-looking beast enters the market, causing everyone to panic and leave. Despite the commotion, Ahmed stays calm and trusts Zamzam's instincts. Surprisingly, Ahmed remains unafraid and reveals that he cannot see. As they talk, Ahmed's bravery and trust in his instincts make an impact on the man. They search for the perfect watermelon together and then head back to Ahmed's hut.

In Ahmed's humble home, they enjoy tea, slices of watermelon, and share laughter, showcasing the power of true friendship and acceptance. Ahmed's ability to see beyond appearances and the man's transformation from feared to trusted friend create a special bond that defies expectations.
