My Project is centred around the environment of a passage through time witnessed by a tree. Hence the name Silent Witness. A tree stands through time feeling and recording through its rings the environment around itself. This was my inspiration as well as William Kentridge who I did not get to explore the psychical charcoal in year two. Therefore this was my time to do this with the multiplane without restriction. As I did more research on the topic of a tree’s growth, I discovered that when tree is under stress it’s berries will not ripen, or it will have a stunted growth that year. I decided this would be a perfect example for my project since I could emote through experimental materials that could be animated. Ending with renewal like the cycle of life, represented by mushrooms. This is because mushrooms appear from the decay and recreate life from destruction. Much like the seasons of life. I hope however that the piece remains up to interpretation. This is because I have a love for the abstraction and based my interpretation through the project. My finished product includes charcoal, oil, ink, lasered wood and procreate to create a multimedia experimental film.
