Concrete Roots by Scarlett McCracken - BA (Hons) Animation Graduate Project 2026

Concrete Roots

For my major project I have created two model sets using two different scales. One set is an aboveground overgrown train station/city that is a much smaller scale and then the other set is underground overgrown train system, that is more magnified. Caused by humans becoming self-consumed as they stopped caring for the city and become too engrossed into technology,

constantly looking at their screens and not being aware or taking notice of their surroundings.

As grass stretches the walls of the buildings moss forming along the rooftops and grounds, skimming the tops of pipes while vines dangle from the lip of the roof and climbing up and around the buildings and electrical poles.

However life still roams the streets noun and again as one human lives within the underground on the oblivion line which the tracks lay on the border between the digital and the forgotten, where the earths vegetation has taken course on the ground, around it and down through to the underground's surroundings. Popping up to the surface to see if there's any hope in trying to regenerate this area.
